At Arrive Home, we believe your home should be your sanctuary. This is especially true when dealing with the fears and challenges of breast cancer.
Fortunately, there are resources available to assist homeowners who need financial assistance after a cancer diagnosis.
If you are concerned about being able to keep up with your mortgage payments, the first step is always to contact your loan servicer. They don’t want to see you fall behind. Many lenders have trained mitigation specialists who will be able to recommend options, such as forbearance or repayment plans, that can help you remain in your home.
Below are several organizations and groups who provide financial help when you need it most.
The Pink Fund is a recognized charity that offers “financial assistance for up to 90-days for non-medical cost-of-living expenses for breast cancer patients in active treatment, so they can focus on healing, raising their families, and returning to the workplace.”
This fund is entirely donation-driven, so they are only open to applications at certain times. They provide one-time grants ranging from $500 – $1,250 to assist with mortgage payments and other needs for those with a breast cancer diagnosis.
Susan G. Komen® Financial Assistance Program
This organization provides financial assistance in the form of $400 grants to eligible applicants. This money can be used for any expenses related to treatment or day-to-day costs such as housing.
This certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit specifically grants mortgage payments to nominated families dealing with cancer. Their mission is to provide both financial and community support.
Part of the Expect Miracles Foundation, the SAMFund has granted over $3.6 million to young adults recovering from the financial burdens of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Additionally, there may be state-level funds available. Go to your state government website — resources can often be found under welfare or medical assistance.
Finally, consider visiting the Patient Advocate Foundation. They maintain a comprehensive, searchable National Financial Resource Directory of national and regional assistance.
A cancer diagnosis can be profoundly lonely, but there are people who want to help. You’re not in this fight alone.
While Arrive Home has made every effort to verify the legitimacy of these organizations, we cannot endorse them or guarantee they’ll be able to assist everyone.
